Hackulous, a service known to be driving downloads of pirated iOS software, has shut down, taking with it the Installous jailbreak tool required to install unlicensed copies of games and apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The announcement comes from the Hackulous administrators themselves who note on hackulo.us, “We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town.”

The stated reason for the shuttering is said to be increased difficulty in keeping the service well moderated, despite the devotion of its members.

“We're incredibly thankful for the support we've had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence,” the Hackulous team states.

Alongside Hackulous, the Installous jailbreak tool and AppSync went down as well.
