Developers will only need to worry about the file size

Apple is making it easy for developers to offer downloadable content to their users by hosting free in-app purchases on its own servers, thanks to a new set of APIs in Store Kit.

Thanks to Apple’s decision to open more APIs (application programming interface) in the Store Kit department, developers can now offer free in-app downloads to their users.

Apple will reportedly manage the hosting and the distribution system, so developers can just focus on coding great content for their install base.

The limit will be 2G per in-app purchase, and the downloads will occur in the background, thanks to another new addition in iOS 7.

Speaking of which, iOS 7 will hit the mainstream this fall. Until then, Apple will continue to polish up the software. Currently, the development cycle is at its second beta.
