Jony Ive reportedly pushing for a starker and simpler design

Apple has unveiled major new versions of its mobile OS every summer for the past few years, and we have every bit of indication that the company is sticking to that tradition in 2013.

Also traditional are the changes we should expect in iOS 7, according to a number of developers who have spoken to Apple, the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Some suggested that in Apple’s next mobile operating system, Ive is pushing a more ‘flat design’ that is starker and simpler, according to developers who have spoken to Apple employees but didn’t have further details,” according to the paper.

The WSJ adds, “Overall, they expect any changes to be pretty conservative.”

Which means those iOS 7 concepts flying around YouTube might be a tad farther away from reality than we’d like to believe.

Although Apple’s Human Interface divisions are said to be collaborating a lot better towards new designs across iOS and OS X, that doesn’t necessarily spell major new changes from an aesthetic point of view. In software, functionality underpinnings are just as important as looks.
