Data released by analytics firm Chitika indicates that iOS 7 is outpacing its predecessor (iOS 6) in terms of penetration, having reached 70% of the iDevice install base in just two months.

Chitika looked at a sample of 300 million U.S. and Canadian ad impressions on its network between October 25 and November 18, and concluded that iOS 7 is now installed on roughly 70 percent of all iPhone and iPad devices.

The firm said, “This makes it very likely that iOS 7 will continue to substantially outpace iOS 6 adoption, which reached 83 per cent close to six months following its release in September 2012.”

iPhone users were the fastest to hop aboard iOS 7, while iPad owners are slightly less inclined to leave iOS 6 behind. It’s also worth noting that Apple’s install base still has a great deal of iDevices that either don’t support iOS 7, or their users are better off employing iOS 6 and iOS 5.
