Users can no longer play downloaded content after update

The BBC recently launched a new iPlayer update for iOS 7 compatibility, but customers are reporting that the app is actually unusable on the new software.

On September 12, BBC iPlayer for iOS was updated to version 2.2.1 to fix playback issues on iOS 7. However, the update not only didn’t fix these issues, but it brought some of its own.

Softpedia reader michelle says, “I have recently downloaded iOs 7 and can now no longer play downloaded content from iPlayer unless connected to the internet.”

“I have significant problem since upgrade. It freezes all the time,” writes another. Several others wrote in with similar scenarios.

It is not uncommon for third-party apps to experience incompatibility issues with new OS releases, but the BBC is certainly taking its time addressing these bugs.

In fact, the British TV network appears to be more fond of the desktop iPlayer client, as they’ve just released a Mac & PC update with “simpler, more reliable downloads for desktop.”
