In the first three days since the launch of iBooks 2 and iBooks Author, Apple sold roughly 350,000 textbooks, according to Global Equities Research.

It's been almost two weeks since Apple’s education event, so that number could have doubled, or even tripled by now.

iBooks Textbooks can only be accessed in iBooks 2 and the titles are created with iBooks Author, a Macintosh application that can turn anyone into a book writer and publisher.

Per Apple’s strict guidelines for selling iBooks Textbooks, paid content must be distributed through the already-established venue for iOS e-books - the iBookstore. And Apple gets a 30 percent cut of the sales, just like with iOS apps, or titles distributed through the Mac App Store. Free textbooks, however, can circulate even by email.
