Fans have been waiting for Dr. Dre’s final album, the one that should have been “Detox,” for a very, very long time, but it seems the waiting is at an end: on August 7, the rapper is dropping his final studio material, “Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre.”
And it will be an Apple exclusive release, as was to be expected.
Dre offered a lot of interesting details on his Beats 1 radio show The Pharmacy over the weekend, and the fact that “Compton” would be available exclusively on Apple Music and the iTunes Store was also mentioned.
Shortly afterwards, the official tracklisting emerged on iTunes; you can find it below, if you want a good taste of what’s to come via confirmation of all the special appearances on it.
As Dre puts it in the video below, he made sure all his “friends” were invited to the party: this will be his final album and he wanted it to be good. Or “bananas,” as he puts it.
“Compton” was inspired by the unofficial biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” documenting Dre’s early years in the industry with the NWA group, a project in whose development he was involved since day one. He says that the idea for the album came as he was leaving the movie set, so he started working on it immediately.
“Straight Outta Compton” drops on August 14.
