Higher resolution should also come with higher prices

Keeping up with the rumor mill is a serious venture when Apple keynotes are approaching, and 4K 21.5-inch iMacs are the latest addition to the list of devices to be revealed during the September 9 event.

Taking into consideration Apple's track record during the last events, unveiling upgraded devices is not only expected but also required. Hence, rejuvenating the screen of the 21.5-inch iMac is more than a probability, since its bigger brother, the 27-inch iMac, just got a 5K display.

In June, Pierre Dandumont also found signs of a soon-to-be-released 4K iMac in the developer release of El Capitan.

Moreover, the current 1080p resolution of the 21.5-inch iMac is practically dwarfed when you set it next to its bigger counterpart, and this hints at an upgraded iMac screen, with a resolution of 4096 x 2304.

Even though better resolution is always a good thing, customers that want to get their hands on the 2015 21.5-inch iMac will surely have to dig deeper in their wallets because, as is the case with most Apple devices that come with upgraded hardware, they'll also have a higher prices.

Fortunately, according to tradition, Apple should also keep selling the lower resolution iMacs, giving a chance to users that don't have the extra money to enjoy the same processing power without the added graphics capability of a faster and brawnier GPU.

On the whole, according to 9to5mac, if you have the cash, and you need a more powerful graphics card, you should wait until October to buy a new 21.5-inch iMac because that's when the new goodies will most probably hit the Apple Store.
