As we've previously reported, hints at a 4K 21.5-inch iMac landed since the second beta of OS X El Capitan, and according to a report by 9to5Mac Apple should release it as soon as next week.

Apple released the 27-inch iMac with a 5K Retina display and a resolution of 5120 x 2880 pixels on October 16, 2014, as well as upgraded processor, graphics card, and new 1 and 3 TV Fusion Drive storage options.

It is only fit that they would also upgrade the smaller 21.5-inch model, with a 4K display and a resolution of 4096 x 2304 as hinted in the El Capitan Beta 2 release for developers, along with upgraded hardware, of which we've also got wind three months ago.

If we were to take notice of the information in the same El Capitan build, the new 4K 21.5-inch iMac will also receive an upgraded graphics card with the possibility of Apple taking their pick out of a pool comprising an Intel Iris Pro 6200 and four AMD Radeon R9 processors (i.e. M380, M390, M395 and M395X).

According to the same report by 9to5Mac, the new 21.5-inch iMacs to be released next week will sport the same look as the current line, with the only difference being the upgraded display and more powerful graphics cards.

Also, as it happens after each hardware upgrade, the 4K 21.5-inch iMacs will also have a higher price tag that suits the higher performance hardware bundled within.

Apple's current line of iMacs includes a 21.5-inch model with prices starting at $1099 and a 27-inch one starting at $1799.
