Bell is the former CFO and corporate president of Boeing

As revealed in a press release published by Apple minutes ago, James A. James has joined the Apple board of directors.

James Bell is the corporate president of The Boeing Company and also its former chief financial officer.

Bell commanded Boeing Shared Services and Boeing Capital Corporation during his 38-year career at The Boeing Company, and he was also chosen as the interim CEO in 2005, after Harry C. Stonecipher's resignation and the arrival of James McNerney as the new CEO.

Currently, James A. Bell is also a member of the board of directors of J. P. Morgan Chase, CDW and the Dow Chemical Company, and a Trustee of Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center.

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, declared that "James brings a wealth of global, financial and industrial experience from his successful career at Boeing as corporate president and CFO."

Moreover, Apple’s chairman Art Levinson stated that "We look for outstanding individuals to strengthen our board’s breadth of talent and depth of knowledge, and we are very happy to have identified a fantastic person in James Bell. I’m confident that he will make many important contributions to Apple."

James Bell is the eighth member added to Apple's board of directors comprised of board chairman Art Levinson, also chairman for Genentech, Apple's CEO Tim Cook, Bob Iger who is Disney chairman and CEO as well.

The Apple board of directors also includes former Northrop executive Ron Sugar, BlackRock co-founder Sue Wagner, Grameen's president and CEO Andrea Jung, and Al Gore.
