Productivity on the go just got a whole lot better

Ever worked on a document and had to switch back and forth between apps to save it and access it later? Of course you did. It’s not like cloud services have been around forever. And even now that they’re ubiquitous, you still have drag a lot of stuff in there manually.

Well, in the case of Microsoft Office on mobile, that’s no longer the case. A new update from Dropbox allows anyone working with Word, Powerpoint or Excel to edit documents straight from the cloud.

The team at Dropbox makes the news official, saying, “The new Dropbox and Microsoft Office integrations are here! Now it’s easy to work on the Office files you’ve stored in Dropbox even when you’re on the go — you can edit them from the Dropbox app, and access them directly from the Office apps.”

Available immediately on both iOS and Android phones, the new Dropbox app works by allowing the user to open any Office document, spreadsheet, or presentation in the app’s interface, then tap the new Edit icon, and the view will be switched to Word, Excel, or Powerpoint instantly, with that specific file opened and ready to be edited.

Any changes will be saved back to Dropbox automatically, eliminating the need to selectively do the syncs yourself. Unfortunately, neither Dropbox for Android, nor Dropbox for iOS had received the updates at the time of this writing.
