Mac Pro (Late 2013) models now only work with Windows 8

Apple has strangely dropped support for Microsoft’s widely-popular Windows 7 in Boot Camp installations for the latest Mac Pro available. The 2013 workstation is only compatible with Windows 8, according to a Support document.

As highlighted by Macnn, KB article HT5634 deals mainly with the system requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems that customers may wish to install on their respective Macs via Boot Camp.

According to the article, which was last updated on March 5, customers can “Learn about the general requirements needed to install Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp. Review the tables in this article to determine which Windows versions are supported with your computer,” Apple says.

Scroll down below to the Mac Pro section and you’ll quickly find a table that mentions a single Windows version being supported by the Late 2013 model. You know, the one that some people say it looks like a trash can. For that particular Mac Pro configuration, only Windows 8 is supported.

However, there are many users out there who still depend on the widely-popular Windows 7. Which means there will be a new backlash from the user base, just like there was in 2012 when Apple refused to give creatives a more powerful Mac Pro workstation.
