A cool find in the WWDC14 app that Apple just incremented to version 2.0 the other day, the company plans on featuring a session that focuses on the open standard for 3D graphics on the web and the most popular shader language, WebGL.

Evidence of Apple planning to give Safari some WebGL love was discovered and subsequently shared with the world by PlayCanvas, the company whose game development platform uses HTML5 and WebGL to enable others to create the next generation of browser and mobile games. Obviously a new supported browser is good news for these guys, and they were quick to highlight Apple’s plans.

According to the WWDC 2.0 app, the topic of Session 509 is “creating 3D interactive content with WebGL,” and it’s available not only for desktop developers, but also for those who are interested in mobile.

“WebGL allows you to create amazing content that lifts off the page,” Apple explains. Learn how to use WebGL to create immersive online experiences, display three-dimensional models with real-time interactivity, and use image processing techniques typically thought of as unavailable for the web.”

In other words, WebGL is coming to Safari on OS X and iOS.
