Oracle has released a new version of its open source virtualization program, VirtualBox, for supported operating systems, including Apple’s OS X.

A release geared towards bug squashing, VirtualBox 4.2.4 touches the Mac with a single platform-specific fix, but one that’s definitely worth the attention of all users on the Mac.

Apparently, VirtualBox could crash in certain circumstances with multiple guest screens on certain conditions. Applicable to OS X hosts only, this patch is now available in the latest version of VirtualBox from Oracle.

The update further fixes a validation warning on global settings / proxy page, as well as an occasional crash during a video playback in the guest.

Video mode selection loss on VM reboot is also an issue patched in version 4.2.4. Other fixes and tweaks are detailed in the full release notes here.
