Inspired by the story of British secret agent Violette Szabo, Velvet Assassin is a World War II-themed stealth action game, now available free of charge on the Mac App Store.

Digital Tribe decided to increase awareness about its stealth game by slashing the price to $0, allowing any Mac users with OS X Lion installed to take Velvet Assassin for a spin.

As Violette, “a beautiful World War II spy deep behind enemy lines with no support or official backing from the British Government,” you delve into some intense stealth action with real-time lighting and superb graphics for “an incredible gaming experience,” according to the game’s creators.

“Through third person game play, sneak up on enemies and pull the pins from their belted grenades. Infiltrate a Gestapo prison and slip cyanide to your own men before the Germans make them talk,” reads the description.

Sounds pretty exhilarating! The screenshots don’t look half bad either. So all you need is an Intel Mac with a two-core processor, OS X Lion (version 10.7.5), 2 gigs of RAM, 5GB of hard disk space, and ATI HD 2600 / NVidia 8600 graphics (or better) with a minimum 256 of VRAM.
