Turkish Businessman Granted “Steve Jobs” Trademark

Trademark to be used in context to a textile brand, likely for clothing

Turkey’s trademark office has granted a businessman by the name of Kamil Kürekçi the rights to the “Steve Jobs” name for commercial use.

Patently Apple has some doubts that this Turkish blogger got his facts right, but the report also comes with a rough translation of the owner’s statement regarding the trademark he just won.

Kamil Kürekçi reportedly said, “Opening overseas with this name will be an advantage for us considering that we will be mainly exporting. We think that Steve Jobs is a worldwide known brand that will never be forgotten.”

“It is also obvious that it will facilitate our work on overseas advertisements of our products,” Kürekçi reportedly added.

The guy is said to be making clothes (perhaps jeans and black turtlenecks).

I don’t know how the trademark system in Turkey works, but I’m pretty sure Apple won’t let this one slip so easily.
