Universal doesn’t seem to be doing a much better job than Sony when it comes to cementing the roles for Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming biopic of Steve Jobs. But progress is being made, and according to a set of email leaks, there’s no shortage of actors looking to be in the movie. Not necessarily to play the visionary genius, either.

According to the latest chatter involving those leaked emails from Sony (from the time the movie was still in their jurisdiction), one of the actors who was eyeing a part in the movie was none other than Tom Hanks, the renowned actor who most recently starred in Captain Phillips. This is not a new development apparently, but the media only caught wind of this recently.

Other actors approaching the producers, this time for the Jobs part, included Matthew McConaughey and Tobey McGuire. However, word on the streets of Hollywood is that Universal has decided to go with Michael Fassbender for the role. It’s also worth mentioning that playwright Aaron Sorkin, the backbone of the project, wanted Tom Cruise for the Jobs role.

The Wrap now has it on file from “multiple individuals familiar with the Universal project” that Dumb & Dumber star Jeff Daniels has been eyed to play the role of John Sculley, the former Pepsi Co. boss whom Steve Jobs himself hired to run Apple as CEO and who eventually got Jobs fired and almost ran the company into the ground.
