White balance seems to reveal that the photographed tablets were actually silver

As I’d originally predicted, those yellow-tinted iPad 5 photos from yesterday are most likely fakes. Adjusting the color balance corrects the Gold into Silver.

Three supposedly “leaked” images from CTechCN were said to show the Gold version of Apple’s iPad 5. I was skeptical and pointed out to the heavy yellow tint which seemed to be capable of turning anything into gold.

Sure enough, I was right. Josh Lowensohn (whether he read my piece or not) went ahead and reverse-doctored the images to achieve a perfectly silver iPad. As the before-after shows, the difference is uncanny.

That’s not to say Apple hasn’t prepared golden iPads for next week’s refresh. If the success of the Gold iPhone 5s is anything to go by, a Gold iPad 5 is a no-brainer. The same goes for iPad mini 2.
