New enterprise apps call for bigger screens, more power

For more than a year now rumors about Apple developing an uber tablet have been tossed around the tech blogosphere, but no one really knew what purpose this device would serve exactly.

Starting today, we can put that uncertainty aside. Apple and the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) made a joint announcement today involving a partnership to offer high-end software solutions in the form of several enterprise apps.

The IMB MobileFirst suite marks the first step towards making a 12-inch iPad truly relevant.

According to Big Blue (Apple’s nickname for IBM at the start of the personal computing revolution), “The way we live has been undeniably transformed by mobile technology. Now it’s time to transform the way we work.”

“IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions combine the power of enterprise data and analytics with elegant user experience to fundamentally redefine the ways enterprises empower their professionals to interact, learn, connect and perform,” says the NY-based giant.

We talked extensively about the duo’s offerings in two separate stories today – Apple and IBM Announce MobileFirst Suite of Apps for iOS and IBM MobileFirst – Meet the Apps in Pictures –, which we encourage you to read through.

The iPad Pro, or iPad Plus as some have decided to call it, is said to sport a 12.2-inch display and will reportedly measure just 7mm in depth. The device will most likely adopt a new generation of A-series processors made either by Samsung or TSMC (or both).

All we need now is confirmation from the big kahunas in Cupertino that iPad Pro is indeed coming. But it couldn’t be more obvious, really.
