In a press release packed with numbers generated by the App Store, Apple names three key titles from independent game creators, lending a huge helping hand with their downloads, implicitly.

Acknowledging that developers big and small create amazing apps for iOS every day, it feels that independent game creators deserve some extra praise. As such, it mentions Monument Valley (arguably one of the best designs ever to have hit the App Store), Crossy Road, and Threes! (the insanely popular puzzle game that also spawned the creation of 2048).

Hipster Whale, the Australian developer behind Crossy Road, is quoted by Apple as saying, “We could never have dreamed of this level of success, with Crossy Road only being available on the App Store for the last six weeks of the year. In a couple of months we were able to create a simple, fun game that was featured on the App Store and climbed to the top of the App Store charts around the world—it’s amazing.”

Monument Valley is a winner of Apple’s Design Awards in 2014, while Threes! has been selected by Apple as Game of the Year (also in 2014). In celebration of the feat, developer Sirvo LLC is offering it at a discount to this day.

Since the App Store’s debut in 2008, developers selling their apps in the venue have cumulatively earned $25 billion from the sale of apps and games.
