Hammacher Schlemmer turns your TV into a large-scale monitor for your iDevice

New York-based Hammacher Schlemmer (what, you didn't know Germany was in NY?) has announced this cool little dongle that attaches to your TV set and lets you stream video, audio and games from a smartphone to an HDTV.

Don’t throw that Apple TV out the window just yet because this thing costs just as much and does far less. But it’s a convenient addition to any household, that I must concede to.

The ingeniously-dubbed “Wireless iPhone to TV Converter” is a wireless receiver that turns your TV set into an uber monitor for your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.

It connects to your iDevice via Wi-Fi and “translates all output on the mobile device - including games, phone calls, video conferences, and music playlists - to the bigger monitor, even displaying content in landscape or portrait mode, depending on the orientation of the source device,” according to its makers.

It costs as much as an Apple TV $99.95 (or around €73) and connects to non-HDMI screens with the included USB cable. It supports Miracast for Android devices and DLNA on iOS hardware.
