Germany-born Michael Fassbender is said to be circling the Steve Jobs role in one of Sony’s most anticipated movie releases ever, sources close to the project revealed this week.

Variety has it on file from reputable connects that “Michael Fassbender is in early talks to play ‘Jobs’ in the Sony biopic that Danny Boyle is directing,” after both Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale came close to signing but eventually pulled themselves from the film’s cast.

DiCaprio’s reasons were simple: he decided to focus on a film he thought deserved more attention, after which he promised himself to take a well-deserved break from acting.

Bale, on the other hand, parted with the role “after much deliberation and conflicting feelings.” Apparently, he didn’t feel right reenacting Steve Jobs’ powerful presentations, the heart of Sorkin’s script, according to the playwright.

“The first one being the Mac,” Sorkin says. “The second one being NeXT, after he had left Apple. And the third one being the iPod.”

Michael Fassbender has played in quite a few high-profile movies, including Prometheus, 12 Years a Slave, Inglorious Basterds, the X-Men series, and many others. There’s no doubt about his acting qualities, but it remains to be seen if the blue-eyed Fassbender can nail Jobs.
