A meagre accomplishment compared to the iOS App Store

Apple is yet to confirm this milestone, but apparently its Mac App Store has just shot past the 10,000 apps mark. This, of course, is a modest feat compared to the 600,000 titles present in the iOS App Store.

The confirmation comes from France-bassed MacGeneration (Google translate) which appropriately attributes the huge discrepancies to the relatively recent launch of the Mac App Store (with just 1,000 titles in its first day).

However, the figures are a good indication that the stringent rules behind Apple’s digital storefront for desktop apps may have scared away numerous developers who code for the Mac.

Upon launch, Apple clarified that developers were free to host the same apps both on the Mac App Store and on their own site.

Numerous Mac users worldwide prefer to download software on their own terms, such as from trusted sites like our own, and other popular download sources.
