The so-called iPhone plus will be the mini iPad mini

Newest rumors say the next-generation iPhone will have two names: iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. As expected, the smaller 4.7-inch diagonal device will be the regular iPhone 6 and the new 5.5-inch screen one will be Apple's experiment for at least a year.

Apple started experimentation last year with the iPhone 5c. The device was the same size, but it had a plastic case, different colors and no Touch ID. That meant, Apple could make it and sell it for less. This year, the experiment is the iPhone 6 Plus – a device that is bigger, hence more difficult to carry around, but it offers developers a way to try out different interfaces.

Lo and behold, one of the most active tinkerers in the iOS community, Steven Troughton-Smith found some interesting iOS simulator settings. According to him, the iPhone 6 Plus will get a 2208x1242 display and that suggests that any developer could use landscape orientation.

Think of a smaller iPad mini-like two-pane interface. The Contacts app, for example, will get the contacts list on the left and the selected contact info on the right. Also, the Calendar app would get the days view on the left and today's events on the right.

There a few apps that work in landscape mode right now, but the two-pane view is the new thing that may take the user one less step to find out something.
