Strategy Analytics’ latest tablet survey covering USA, UK, Germany, France, China and Japan reveals that over 30 percent of iPad owners want a screen size other than 10 inches. Which sounds perfect for Apple, as the company is rumored to release an iPad mini this October.

The greatest interest in large screens was recorded in the USA, UK and China where 62 percent or more preferred a 10-inch tablet. Apple’s current line of iPads has 9.7-inch screens.

31 percent of iPad owners in Germany said they’d prefer a 7-inch screen. In Japan, a quarter of Apple iPad owners said they’d buy a 7-inch tablet.

20 percent of the sample of 923 tablet owners (including iPad owners) across the six countries said they’d prefer a 7-inch experience.

Peter King, Service Director for the Tablet and Touchscreen Strategies Service (TTS) said, ”Clearly Apple has correctly targeted the most preferred screen size with its initial 10 inch iPad offerings, but our survey suggests that if the iPad Nano is launched in the next few weeks, the company can be confident that market potential exists for a smaller screen size”.
