Apple may be taking its Maps service to the web, much like Google has done, according to a new job posting available on the company’s web site.

Apple says it is “working on an exciting new system” and it needs the help of a software engineer who would be “joining a small team working on an advanced web platform upon which many of Apple's future services will be based.”

This front-end engineer needs to be “very capable” and to have a strong background in web services development.

The collaborative position will involve “cross-functional engineering [to] to define and implement some of the web pages for the system that will power next generation Apple products.”

The formal part of the job description states (emphasis ours), “Design, develop, and maintain complex front-end code for a new secret project.”
