Reports from the Far East say Apple is now using batteries from Amperex Technology Limited and Tianjin Lishen Battery to power its iPads and MacBook laptops.

Apple continues to cut its dependence on parts supplied by Korean rival Samsung as yicai.com reports that Cupertino has reportedly shifted its battery production orders to China’s Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) and Tianjin Lishen Battery.

Both battery suppliers will be producing cells for the iPad and the MacBook range of laptops.

Yicai, the online news section of China Business News, an economic and financial media group based in Shanghai, specifically states that “the original manufacturer Samsung SDI has stopped supplying Apple.”

Similar reports recently indicated that Samsung had begun charging Apple more money for each A-series chip produced. And earlier reports said Apple had stopped using Samsung displays in its products, though both rumors are yet to be confirmed.
