If you were holding your breath for a Retina-capable iPad mini this spring, it appears that it is not happening. Nor will it happen in the near future, according to one knowledgeable analyst.

The iPad mini 2 with Retina display is not entering production until fall. That’s the key takeaway from a research note signed Ming-Chi Kuo, who works with investment bank KGI Securities.

The problem is the Retina display, which Apple’s suppliers can’t make enough of in due time.

Another thing Kuo noted is that Apple will try to price the tablet even more aggressively this time around. $199 (€151) to $249 (€189) for 8GB of storage and no rear-facing camera. We’d say these last tidbits are a little bit far-fetched.

The analyst also said to expect the iPad 5 to look a lot like the current-generation iPad mini, which is well in line with all the recent chatter about the tablet’s design.
