Former Mac OS Evangelist Tim Holmes has published a set of photos on Flickr depicting Steve Jobs’ historic return to Apple Computer in 1996. The images were taken with an Apple QuickTake camera.

Holmes recalls the night as if it were yesterday: “Working late on a Friday on December 20th at Apple Computer as Mac OS Evangelist, my manager came rushing past my office door saying to come with him to Town Hall, Apple's theater for announcements, company meetings and the like. It was clearly not a company meeting…”

Rather, it was Steve Jobs who’d returned to Apple to reinstate innovation and risk taking, after he had been fired from his CEO position by the board of directors a decade earlier.

Jobs attributed his ousting to John Sculley, whom Jobs himself had scouted for the CEO position. In 2005, during an inspiring commencement speech at Stanford University, the visionary genius admitted that getting fired from Apple was one of best things that had ever happened to him.
