In iOS 6, whenever you had music playing on your iDevice, a minute “Play” icon would appear in the status bar just next to the battery meter. In iOS 7, that handy indicator is gone forever. But not if you can help it.
If you happen to be wielding a jailbroken unit, simply waltz over to Cydia and access the BigBoss repository. Once you’re there, search for a thing called NowPlayingStatusBar. It’s free to download, and it works with both 32-bit and 64-bit iOS 7 devices, according to the modmyi forums.
