"Panic mode activated” for your iFriends

Have a friend with a jailbroken iDevice and want to get some laughs? We hear that the best thing to do these days is to wait for them to leave the device unattended and slap this glitchy background onto the handset.

Posted to Reddit and garnering instant attention from the masses, this simple GIF image makes it look as if the iDevice is in some serious GPU trouble. It actually gives the impression that the phone is struggling to reboot, which is always a telltale sign of an impending “brick” scenario. Chances are your friend will freak out, if only for a second or two before they realize that it’s a prank.

If you’re asking why the handset needs to be jailbroken to make this work, it’s because iOS – for all the advancements it packs – doesn’t support GIFs as wallpapers. While the software does come with some moving backgrounds, those are stock items designed by Apple. Anything else is a no-go.

A poster in the thread has an even better idea of how to prank his iPhone-wielding buds. And it doesn’t even include a jailbreak.

“I have had three different friends leave there phones on the table when they went to the bathroom at a restaurant. I change my name in the phone to God and then I text them late at night when I know they've been drinking and screw with them.”

Hilarious stuff, all in this massive thread on how to prank iUsers. Enjoy!
