Nikki Sweetman did not think to use Find My iPhone before the new “user” could turn off all tracking features

Returning from a drunken work Christmas party last month, 23-year-old recruitment consultant Nikki Sweetman had her purse stolen while riding an unlicensed taxi. Recently, a bunch of selfies showing a pouting brunette started cropping up in her iCloud stream.

A resident of Dagenham, Essex, Miss Sweetman had come to accept that she’d never see her iPhone 5c again. She’d fallen asleep in the taxi cab and woke up to find out that her belongings were missing, including her Apple smartphone. The cab driver insisted that she hadn’t been carrying a purse at all when she hopped in and subsequently fell asleep.

Recently, Miss Sweetman started noticing some selfies trickling in on her iCloud Photo Stream.

“‘I thought 'what the hell?’ At first, we laughed and thought it was quite funny. She posted loads of photos of her earrings, which we thought must have been a Christmas present. But then I thought ‘she shouldn't get away with this.’ I'm quite angry that I'm now left with an iPhone 4, while she has my lovely iPhone 5c,” said the victim, according to Mail Online.

Miss Sweetman started to investigate and soon found out that the woman in the photos was Latvian, but she was living in London. She also learned she’d previously worked as a hotel barmaid. Instead of trying to track down her device using Find My iPhone, she used a feature on Facebook to find out where the selfies had been taken: at the Westfield shopping center in Stratford.

Miss Sweetman proceeded to make the selfies public calling the woman a “tramp” and asking anyone who knew her to try and help recover her phone. The woman has since switched off all tracking functions and is home free. Way to go, Miss Sweetman! Way to go!
