The Pixelmator Team is offering a new version of its poor-man’s Photoshop alternative on the Mac, Pixelmator 3.2, featuring a host of new features like a new Repair Tool, 16-bits per channel support, layer locking, and the ability to convert selections into shapes.

Pixelmator 3.2 is codenamed Sandstone and “includes new features, a number of improvements, user interface enhancements, and fixes related to stability and reliability,” according to its developers.

These new features sport an all-new Repair Tool that enables removing unwanted objects or image imperfections more accurately and without damaging your original photo. Users also get 16-bits per channel support, which enables more flexibility to make extreme color adjustments without ruining the whole image.

Layer locking is also a big part of this update. The Pixelmator Team explains: “When creating large and complex compositions, layer locking makes it easy to protect layer content from any further changes so that you can freely edit the rest of your composition.” Finally, the 3.2 release also lets users more easily create shapes from any selection.

Pixelmator 3.2 supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish and requires OS X 10.9.1 or later and a 64-bit processor to run. The new version is a free download for all existing users.
