As Foxconn is reportedly trying to reduce its reliance on Apple orders, manufacturing rival Pegatron is said to be succeeding in signing bigger contracts with the Cupertino giant.

Reuters has learned that Pegatron is pushing hard to “grab more orders to assemble the fast-selling iPhone and iPad” from Apple, citing various analysts as saying that Pegatron is capable of crafting the gadgets for less money than Foxconn.

According to the same people, “[Pegatron] appears to be succeeding in pulling in more orders from Apple,” the report states.

It’s worth noting that Pegatron itself is responsible for these rumors. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer just recently announced it would increase its workforce by 40 percent in the second half of 2013, kicking off speculation that it will become the main assembler of the much rumored low-cost iPhone.
