The Chinese hacking team known as Pangu has released a Mac-compatible version of the untethered jailbreak utility for iDevice owners looking to unshackle their iOS 8 devices.

Released with build number 1.0.0, the Mac version of Pangu comes with all the fixes, tweaks, and enhancements associated with the latest Windows build (Pangu 1.2.0).

Pangu is now available for both Mac and Windows and supports all iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad models that can handle iOS 8, including the newest devices released by Apple this year.

Over-the-air (OTA) updates still pose problems, though. The developers warn that “The firmware upgraded via OTA affects Pangu 8 a lot and usually causes Pangu 8 to fail. If you have failed many times, please try to download the latest firmware and restore your iOS devices.”

Users can do so via Pangu’s built-in firmware restore function, but it’s recommended that they apply the IPSW using iTunes. Needless to point out, jailbreaking itself is not recommended.

Although still somewhat tricky, Pangu promises to make the jailbreak process fast and painless. Cydia gatekeeper Jay Freeman noted last week that Pangu was “stable enough” to be used by everyone. Freeman opened access to iOS 8 jailbreak tweaks in Cydia and gave developers a warm welcome.
