Apple Watch knockoff debuts at CES, costs just $35

A company that lives next door to Foxconn in China has released an inferior Apple-like watch that can be paired to your phone to answer calls, has a built-in pedometer and altitude meter, as well as an alarm.

The wearable doesn’t seem to have a name yet, but Oplus Tek is boldly (and shamelessly) touting Apple Watch functionality on the floor at CES 2015 for the incredibly low price of $35 (€29.61).

When asked how they came up with the design, Oplus Tek’s Lily Yin told Cult of Mac, “We took the Apple Watch and made a few tiny changes so Apple won’t get mad.”

Surely Apple will get mad and most likely even issue a takedown notice via Chinese authorities to stop the spread of this knockoff before it hurts the real Apple Watch’s chances of making a proper debut.

The biggest problem is that Oplus Tek’s device isn’t the only Apple Watch knockoff currently being demonstrated at CES. Suddenly, we have a pretty good idea why Apple, despite not participating at these trade shows, has sent in four people to scour the scene. We wouldn’t be surprised if their debriefing results with Oplus Tek being forced to cease sales of this blatant knockoff. The firm also sells a Moto 360 clone.
