Opera 20 is out for the adventurous tester who doesn’t mind a buggy experience for the sake of ensuring a stable build later down the line. This developer release comes with an extensions chrome.downloads API.

Helge Andre Gjølme makes the release official on the Opera Desktop Team blog.

“Opera 20 goes to developer stream today. As you may know, the developer stream is where we try things out; some of them don’t make it to the Opera Next stream, others do, depending on their stability and general bugginess, so thanks in advance for trying them out and for your bug reports,” writes Helge.

Available immediately for Mac and Windows users, Opera 20 Developer comes with an extensions chrome.downloads API (application programming interface), the ability to drag tabs onto the bookmarks bar to save them for later use, and a confirmation dialog when using Command–Q to exit the browser completely. This change is for Mac users only, according to Helge.

Other highlights from the changelog include:

Improved stash screenshots (hoping to eliminate blurry scaled snapshots); Improved drag and drop between Speed Dial and Bookmarks Bar; Performance improvements of theme loading; Settings | Advanced: Use smaller speed dial thumbnails; Settings | Power-user: Width and Height of speed dial thumbnails.
