Intego is reporting the emergence of a new piece of malware dubbed OSX/Crisis.B, or ‘Business Cards,’ that affects both Mac and Windows systems.

Peter James, writing over at the Intego blog, reports, “In these days of computer conspiracies, the Mac is not left out. A new variant of Remote Control System, Hacking Team’s spyware, landed on VirusTotal with a detection rate of 0 out of 47 scanners.”

OSX/Crisis is a backdoor used by governments during targeted attacks, according to the Mac security experts at Intego. The malware is capable collecting anything from audio and pictures to screenshots and keystrokes, “and reports everything to a remote server,” says the security firm.

Intego says its VirusBarrier software with up-to-date definitions will protect you against this malware.

From Intego’s reporting it isn’t immediately clear whether or not this threat is critical or not, but you can never be too safe these days. Read through their analysis of this piece of malware and see whatever course of action fits your needs.
