If you happen to be using an Epson printer or a scanner at home or at the office, chances are it’s not working very well with your Mac. Especially if that Mac is not running the latest version of Apple’s desktop operating system.

Enter Epson Printer Drivers version 3.0 for OS X, a huge installer package that inexplicably weighs north of 1GB and contains the much-needed code for making your Mac compatible with the new Epson devices.

“This update installs the latest software for your EPSON printer or scanner for OS X Mavericks, OS X Mountain Lion, and OS X Lion,” Apple says on its Support site.

As usual, the Cupertino giant links to the printer & scanner KB article where every single scanner and printer supported by OS X is listed.

Apple also delivers third-party software for scanners and printers via Software Update, which means users can simply connect their device to the Mac, and if an update is needed, the Mac App Store will launch automatically and fetch the installer.

Said support document also details Apple’s wireless, driver-free printing technology called AirPrint. Introduced with iOS 4.2 in 2010, AirPrint lets you print out anything from your iPhone or iPad without connecting any wires. All you need is an AirPrint-compatible printer. For who’s asking, there are many of them out there today.
