Apple has high hopes for OS X Mavericks, and that concerns both regular users and IT administrators. Businesses small and big will have a lot to gain this fall when they get their hands on Mavericks Server.

For a while now Apple has been selling the Server side of its desktop operating system as a standalone product. The decision has been a very inspired one. The software is now a lot cheaper and a lot easier to integrate into any environment.

Unlike other solutions, OS X Server goes on top of a regular (Client) OS X installation.

The new Mavericks Server includes a range of innovations that promise to help both the people who use a network, and the people who maintain it.

According to Apple, “The new features in Xcode Server make it easier than ever for a Mac or iOS development team to create robust, reliable software, thanks to continuous integration, testing, and repository hosting services.”

Mavericks Server comes with Caching Server 2, which speeds up the download process of software through iTunes, as well as distribution. Now you can cache on your server “for faster downloading to iOS 7 devices,” according to the Cupertino giant.

Lastly, Profile Manager brings new management features that simplify software distribution of apps and books on both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks, now that iBooks is also available on the Mac.
