Menubar dialog indicates which apps are draining more power than usual

Apple’s latest OS X comes with some advanced power management features, such as the intuitiveness to halt video action that you’re not paying any attention to.

But there’s another feature that has the same goal of reducing power drain. In the battery menu – which pops up on portable Mavericks installations (MacBook) – a prompt now appears to let you know when certain apps are sucking a lot of juice.

“Apps using significant power,” reads the prompt, followed by the names of the actual applications, such as in the screenshot above (courtesy of Cultofmac) which shows that Rdio and Airfoil are taking their toll on the MacBook’s battery.

That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with the apps themselves, but the prompt comes in extremely handy when you’re no longer using those power-sucking apps.

In case you’re working on something important with no outlet in sight, this little tool will be very appreciated by many.
