A new beta release of Adium, the popular instant messaging application originally coded by Adam Iser, is now available with a bunch of fixes. One of these fixes addresses crashes on Snow Leopard machines.

According to the release notes for Adium 1.5.6 Beta 1, this new version fixes a common crash on startup reported by users running Mac OS X 10.6.8, the latest Snow Leopard update from Apple.

The beta further includes fixes for a crash when accepting or canceling the certificate verification dialog, as well as for issues surrounding the “Add Link…” function.

Libpurple has been updated to version 2.10.7 fixing two security vulnerabilities, and a problem involving the “Open Link” menu item has also been resolved. The Spanish translation is also updated.

Note that this is a beta release, which means you’re likely to encounter other bugs during usage. For a more reliable experience, download the latest stable version of Adium (both available at the link below).
