OneDrive update arrives with small fixes alongside updated Office suite

Microsoft has released updates for users of its Office suite on OS X and iOS, delivering a bunch of fixes on both platforms. A new version of OneDrive, the company’s cloud-storage client app, is also available for download on Macintosh computers.

Microsoft Office Mobile for iPhone 1.1.1 comes with nothing more than “bug fixes,” in what would appear to be a very insignificant maintenance update for iOS customers. However, if the OS X counterpart is any indication, the update could be important.

According to the release notes accompanying Microsoft Office 2011 version 14.4.1, “This update fixes critical issues and also helps to improve security. It includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.” It isn’t immediately clear if the iOS version of the productivity suite is affected.

OneDrive 17.0 Build 4036 similarly arrives with plain “bug fixes” aboard. Microsoft fails to note exactly what code corrections have been performed. To our knowledge, users have been generally satisfied with the software, so these could be just some minor (under-the-hood) code optimizations.

To download Microsoft Office Mobile for iPhone 1.1.1, iDevice owners need iOS 7.0 or later and a compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac requires an Intel-based Mac with 1GB of RAM, and OneDrive requires a Windows Live account.
