Microsoft is poised to gain some SkyDrive subscribers after Apple’s announcement that it is retracting a complementary amount of storage from old MobileMe subscriptions.

Apple recently announced that customers who had a MobileMe subscription when iCloud launched are about to lose their complementary 20GB of storage.

The change will be effective September 30, at which time those users who are exceeding the free 5GB iCloud plan will need to be prepared to erase some data or upgrade to a paid plan.

In light of this announcement, Microsoft issued the following tweet to its customer base:

“Did Apple cancel your extra MobileMe storage? Fwd the downgrade email to [email protected] for an extra 15GB of SkyDrive for 1 year.”

There you have it. I’d be the first to say stick with Apple but, considering all the issues they’re having with iCloud at the moment, I wouldn’t blame anyone for jumping ship.
