In the United States, Apple only offers 12 months warranty for all products

A man from Idaho named Corbin Rasmussen is suing Apple on the count of having his iMac drop dead on him after 18 months of use, or six months outside the 12-month guarantee from Apple.

So he’s suing the Cupertino giant, and he’s inviting others to chime in and join the class action, which asks for more than $5 million / €3.6 million in damages.

The problem, before you ask, was the iMac’s screen. After 18 months of use, it started to dim to the point where Mr. Rasmussen couldn’t use the computer to watch movies or browse the web.

Mr. Rasmussen suggests in his complaint that he was tricked by Apple’s marketing into thinking the iMac was ”designed for a long productive life,” so he saved up cash to buy one, but ended up with a faulty machine.

He says Apple would only repair / replace the faulty screen in exchange for a $500 (€363) fee, since the computer was out of warranty.

You’ll recall that Apple has been sued in numerous European territories for not complying with local laws which request electronics vendors to set a minimum of 2 years for warranty coverage.
