Apple has a new problem on its hands with the latest MacBook Air computers, and customers have already taken to its forums to complain.

Numerous owners of a 13-inch 2013 MacBook Air claim to be experiencing volume fluctuation when playing music and videos on various media playing applications, including first-party tools (iTunes, QuickTime), as well as third-party software (Hulu, VLC), and even web browsers.

“I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?” reads one complaint.

An army of users replied with similar descriptions, and some have offered up BOOM as a fix. A third-party application which sells for $6.99 / €5.99, Boom enhances and equalizes sound on OS X. However, Apple itself will need to deliver a patch soon.
