League of Legends is finally rolling out for the Mac, initially as a Public Beta Environment (PBE) release for game testers, then (soon) as an open beta for everyone interested.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena game developed and published by Riot Games. Inspired by the popular Defense of the Ancients map made for Warcraft III, the game was first announced on October 7, 2008, and released on October 27, 2009 for Microsoft Windows.

Associate Producer Udyr makes the release official on the League of Legends forums, stating “I’m pleased to report that the long-awaited (fabled? mythical?) League of Legends Mac client is almost ready, and it’s heading into open beta soon.”

The Public Beta Environment (PBE) client is already available for download. The Open Beta will arrive when the development team is “confident in the results from the PBE test,” according to the announcement.
