Lake Oswego electronics vendor says the case was isolated, but it pulled all cables

A “Mac Store” in Beaverton, Oregon selling knockoff iPhone accessories has been forced to pull a particular cable model after one overheated, potentially endangering the user.

The Mac Store thing is not Katu.com’s invention, as some of you might have thought (admittedly, myself included). A "Mac store" is generally something a journalist with little knowledge of Apple will use to designate a store that sells Apple stuff. But this particular store is actually named like that.

Moreover, it is unclear how this particular Apple reseller in Lake Oswego ended up selling unofficial, black iPhone cables that melt and catch fire. A thing like this can cost them their license (I hear this Mac Store is actually an authorized reseller).

Either way, the moral of the story here is don’t buy junk, and always follow Apple’s winning advice when it comes to accessories, which basically states, "ours are better." Although cables and chargers cost more at Apple, at least you know they’re crafted with a great deal of attention. Plus, you can sue if necessary.
