FOX Broadcasting Company is offering COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey, the free companion app for the TV show with the same name made in memory of Carl Sagan’s iconic exploration of the universe in a ship of the imagination.

The COSMOS app is described as “a companion to the groundbreaking series, providing breathtaking imagery, unique videos and additional exclusive content to enable viewers to connect to the show all week long.”

You won’t be watching the shows on it, but you will get the chance to play with the interactive Cosmic Calendar that visualizes the 14-billion-year history of the universe condensed into a calendar year – January, February, March... all the way to December 31, which is present day in the cosmic calendar.

The app was recently updated to include the “Your Message To The Cosmos” Contest where universe fanatics can submit their own message on a Golden Record for the chance to win a trip to New York or L.A. to meet Neil deGrasse Tyson and Ann Druyan, who was married to the late Sagan.

If you’re interested in the show as well, it airs on Sundays at 9/8c on FOX and Mondays at 10/9c on National Geographic Channel. This week they’ll be airing the second episode. If you’re familiar with basic universe stuff, you haven’t missed much.
