There have been reports of Airplay mirroring freezing or dropping connections on an 802.11 b/g network, and now Apple is lending a helping hand.

According to Support document TS5316 on Apple.com, “When using a MacBook Pro (Late 2013) or Mac Pro (Late 2013) with Airplay mirroring on an 802.11 b or g network, the TV image might freeze or the connection gets dropped.”

There’s an easy fix for this issue, according to the Cupertino company, and that is to turn off Bluetooth. The company doesn’t say this is an official fix or that it’s 100% reliable. In all likelihood, a software patch will be necessary in the future as this sounds like more of a workaround to me.

“Turning off Bluetooth can enhance the performance of Airplay considerably. To turn off Bluetooth, locate the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar on the upper-right corner of your screen. Click the icon and choose Turn Bluetooth Off,” Apple says.
